Peer Review Process
WheatOmics employs a single-blind peer review process for all submissions. In this process, editors and reviewers are aware of the authors' identities, but the authors do not know the identities of the editors or reviewers. Reviewers’ identities are also kept confidential from each other. When a manuscript is submitted to WheatOmics, it first undergoes a technical check by the editorial office to ensure all necessary elements are included. After this initial check, the manuscript is sent to a scientific editor for evaluation. If deemed suitable for full peer review, the scientific editor forwards the manuscript for in-depth review by external reviewers.
If a manuscript is considered unsuitable for publication following the initial assessment, it is returned to the authors without external review, typically within seven working days, to allow prompt resubmission elsewhere. Manuscripts selected for external review are managed by professional scientific editors and typically evaluated by three reviewers per research paper. The editors are committed to conducting reviews expediently and aim to reach an editorial decision within approximately six to eight weeks from the date of manuscript submission. If revisions are required, the handling editor reviews the reviewers' comments and provides detailed instructions. Minor revisions are usually given one month, while major revisions are allotted three to six months. WheatOmics limits the revision process to two rounds.
Resubmissions: Manuscripts resubmitted after initial rejection are generally reviewed by the same editor and reviewers, although new reviewers may be involved if necessary. There is no deadline for resubmitting a manuscript, but its relevance and significance are judged based on the current literature as of the final decision date, not the original submission date. Once accepted, articles are typically published online within five to ten days. Major modifications post-acceptance are subject to review and may result in publication delays.
Decision Making: A decision to reject a manuscript can be made at any point during the evaluation process, whether without review or after an initial review. The final decision on every manuscript is made by a scientific editor.
Presubmission Inquiries: WheatOmics encourages authors to submit presubmission inquiries to assess the suitability of their manuscripts. For research or review articles, these inquiries should include a statement highlighting the research's significance, along with a title page that includes author details, an abstract, and key figures with their legends. For short-format paper categories, the inquiry should consist of the complete document. All presubmission inquiries should be sent to editorial_office@wheatomics.com.
Status Inquiries: Once submitted, the status of a manuscript will be indicated as "Under Review" shortly after the initial format check until a decision is made. All inquiries regarding the review status of a submission should be directed to editorial_office@wheatomics.com.
Special Issues: Manuscripts submitted for a special issue may be overseen by a guest scientific editor rather than a member of the editorial board. A guest editor, who is an expert in a specific sub-topic, is selected by the Editor-in-Chief in coordination with the editorial board to manage the editorial process for the special issue. Publications within a special issue adhere to the same rigorous evaluation standards and ethical guidelines as regular articles in the journal. The peer review process for special issue manuscripts follows the same procedure as for regular manuscripts submitted to the journal.
